Youth BBQ @ St. Paul’s (8th Oct 2004)
Bird’s Eye View of The Youth CentreOn the 8th of October a new type of event was inaugurated at St. Paul’s - a cheap, small-scale BBQ for any and all youth to attend. The concept was simple, the organization was easy and everyone had a ball! About 50 young people joined in the fun, playing games and enjoying good food and good company.
For the short time that it was light people played basketball, but after dark the crowds moved indoors into the youth centre to use the games equipment in there. Table tennis tournaments, foosball fanaticism, billiard battles, and air-hockey antics were among the list of activities people enjoyed throughout the night. Some people thought they could play, others knew that they couldn’t but everyone got into the fun of the night and had a great time. Most importantly there was plenty of food to go around and everyone ate to their stomachs’ content.
Probably the most positive outcome of this event is the fact that it allowed people from all the churches in Melbourne to get together in a relaxed and sociable environment. It is so important for us to remember that all the different churches in Melbourne are each just one part of the same body of Christ. Each church has its own specific jobs - in the same way that a hand does something different to a foot - but in the end we are all part of the one body, the one church, working together to the glory of God and to that of His kingdom. Getting together for fun and friendship is a great step towards realizing this unity.
So, in light of the success of this enjoyable event, St. Paul’s plan on having more BBQs and celebrations at the church - starting with an evening BBQ on Boxing Day. We pray that it will be as successful and fruitful as the last.
